Whaleback Lighthouse,  Portsmouth Harbor New Hampshire ~ 2004

On a very foggy morning in July, we stood on the shore at Fort Foster, Kittery Point, and counted the seconds between flashes on the lighthouse, just barely visible in the distance. We think it's a great illustration of a situation in which a lighthouse is most needed.

The current Whaleback light was constructed in 1872 and is made of gray granite blocks.
