The Webster family has, for the most part, remained in the Syracuse area since Ephraim Webster first settled it in 1786. We are a large and industrious family, whose members are as strong and independent as their ancestor.

MacFarlane lands are located in the West Highlands at the heads of Loch Long and Loch Lomond. However, the clan did not originate in the Highlands, nor are they of Celtic origin. Rather, they are of Saxon decent, integrated into the highlands through displacement from Northumberland and intermarriage with Celtic people.
The clan has a history of violence, specifically, in such actions as opposing Mary, Queen of Scots and in raiding cows from their richer neighbors. Around 1600 the clan was outlawed after the murder of the Colquhon of Luss. Settling for a brief period of tranquility on the Islands of Invergulas and Eileen a'Bhuth, they were then twice burned out during the 17th century. Many then emigrated to the New World.
Robert Burns once said of the area, it is a "land of savage hills, swept by savage rains, peopled by savage sheep, tended by savage people."
