Spring Point Ledge Light, Maine ~ 2004
At the end of a 900-foot granite breakwater, Spring Point Ledge light guides ships entering Portland Harbor around a submerged ledge that reaches out into the main channel.
The lighthouse was built in 1896 and was automated in 1960. The Portland Harbor Museum is located on shore at the base of the breakwater. The day we were there, crews were busy carrying what looked like large panels of glass or plastic out to the light.
