Oswego West Pierhead Light ~ October 2003
Built in 1934, this lighthouse still shines nightly, even though its original Fresnel lens and red windows have been replaced by a solar powered lantern and clear windows. The pier is located at the entrance to the port of Oswego, which guards the opening of the Oswego Canal, located along the Oswego River. The light is maintained by the members of a nearby Coast Guard installation.
The light is not open to the public, but it is easily viewed from the grounds of Fort Oswego, from several locations around the port, and from Breitbeck Park, just past Wright's Landing.
