Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse, Florida ~ March 2004

The lighthouse at Jupiter Inlet has been guiding ships since it was erected in 1859, darkened for only a few years during that time because of the Civil War. It has survived hurricanes, one of which blew out one of the bullseyes from the Fresnel lens, kept watch over a busy Naval station during WWII, and stood sentinel over missile tracking activities during the early years of space exploration.

Today, the grounds surrounding the light are an active Coast Guard station, and the light was refurbished in 1975 thanks to the care and concern of commander Lt. Richard Harvey.

The light was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in November of 1975.
