Fort Point Light, Stockton, Maine ~ 2004

Near the end of our drive towards Acadia, we found Fort Point Light at the tip of Cape Jellison, just below the entrance to the Penobscot River. This brick tower and house were built in 1857 to replace a rubblestone tower that had fallen apart. The Fort Point Park ranger and his family now occupy the house, but access to the grounds is not limited by their presence.

Nearby is a pyramidal fog bell tower and the remains of the British Fort Pownell that once stood on this promontory.
