Before I even reached the trail today, I was taken by the beauty of a nearby pasture: hundreds of prickly pears in bloom dotted the field, one of the few plants that doesn't seem to be so affected by the severe drought we are suffering. In fact, it might have been the recent heavy rain that brought out these blooms.
