Under these trees I have often enjoyed moments of musical meditation with guitar or flute. My daughter, also, has developed musical talents; so it wasn't much of a surprise to learn through a geneologic search that among the artisans of the Gaelic were musicians and poets. As a Harper, who is also a musician, it is affirming to learn that only the harper enjoyed the status of "freeman" in medieval Gaelic society. The "clarsach" was the most important instrument to these medieval clans, and many professional harpers were attached to particular courts of the nobility. Our music, then, is a gift, which we cherish as any should be.
